SMART Flow Cell Platform

Product Overview

The SMART Flow Cell platform consists of a flow cell with sterile tubing and a reader that includes a peristaltic pump. To operate, connect the sterile tubing to an effluent or recycling stream on the fermenter or bioreactor and clip the flow cell into the reader.  The reader pump pulls liquid from the reactor and assesses growth in the reactor through changes in the sensor signal (Skroot Growth Index, SGI). The growth phases are easily observed and specific points of induction, harvest, or feed can be pushed to the operator.

Product Highlights:

  • Modular. Can be applied to any reactor that accepts a sterile fluid line.

  • Eliminates the need for manual sampling for the entire run.

  • Continuous data provides full growth trends, not just sampled snapshots.

  • Pushed notifications for different growth phases of the culture

  • Software compliance: 21 CFR Part 11 compliant

  • Reader compliance: FCC, UL, REACH, RoHS, CE (pending)

SMART Flow Cell:

SMART sensors are integrated into the IBI Flow cell during production and undergo gamma irradiation for sterilization.

The SMART sensor leverages a selective transduction membrane that softens when it is exposed to secreted metabolites that present in cell growth. As the transduction membrane softens the sensor response changes. Read more in our publications.

Software and Pump Integration:

Preloaded software is included on the reader with a touchscreen to provide simple lab based use (no mouse or keyboard). The interface allow for control of pump flow rate (as shown) and reports the change in SGI over the course of cell growth.

The continuous data is displayed locally. The reader can also transfer the growth information to a secure AWS dashboard or pass over a hardwired network connection. This can be viewed on mobile devices and desktops to track currently running flow cells and completed runs. This allows an unprecedented level of oversight on production timing and scheduling allowing for increased scale and efficiencies.

Reader:

The flow cell reader includes a computational unit, touch interface, peristaltic pumps, and ports to download completed reports and raw data. The reader is WiFi and ethernet capable to push information to the cloud or secure network folder. The pump is pre-calibrated with the supplied tubing to provide a simple, plug and play experience for the operator.
